Today at Challengers… Dal started his New Year’s Resolution of “Let’s Spend Less Time Working On The Challengers Website” early by spending basically all day overhauling the Challengers website. It’s barely presentable, but you should be able to go take a look and see it get put together. I would not stand super-close, though.
Today at Challengers… customer Donald Cardenas and Patrick ironed out the details of the Challengers 2012 weekly sketch-blog Challengers Assemble! It will live here: http://challengersassemble.wordpress.com/
Interested participants are welcome to email Patrick at firstname.lastname@example.org and every Monday Morning starting in January he will announce the week’s character/theme. Participating artists will render their interpretation and send in their images and we will host them at the Challengers Assemble site.
Today at Challengers… Patrick finished the orders for January, a full 7 days before they’re due! For him, that’s a record. …it’s only a record because we have an extra 2 days due to Thanksgiving, but a record nonetheless! And he didn’t even NEED those 2 extra days!
Today, Friday November 18, is Children in Need Appeal Day for 2011. Children in Need is the BBC’s UK corporate charity that focuses on children and young people who are disadvantaged and organisations which empower children and extend their life choices.
Patrick has donated again this year and is wearing his Pudsey bandanna in support.
Today at Challengers… talking about post-Fear Itself Bucky and New 52 Nightwing brought up the Quantum Entangled Sidekick theory. You all know about quantum entanglement, right? Phew, okay, cool. Anyway, Bucky and Robin:
Multiple people have taken each role.
One of each was killed (Bucky Barnes, Jason Todd).
One of each came back from the dead (Bucky Barnes, Jason Todd).
One of each took over for their mentor (Bucky Barnes, Dick Grayson).
One of each was removed from the post to resume their previous, non-sidekick identity (Winter Soldier, Nightwing).
I mean, that’s a little spooky. If Bucky stubs his toe, does a Robin feel it? Do they have some secret, made-up language?
Today at Challengers… Thanks to our good friend Tim Wadzinski of DETRITUS fame, we were introduced to possibly the greatest thing either of us has ever heard*… ANIMETAL USA. A KISS-meets-Anime band featuring an all-star heavy metal line-up, in full kabuki-style make-up, signing hair metal songs based on Japanese animation. Right? RIGHT?? SO COOL! Here’s the description from their website: “Although this music is based on Anime, it has lots of original screaming vocals, shredding guitar solos, and a mean bad ass rhythm section.” Expect to hear a lot of this band playing in-store soon (when Patrick is working).
*Dal: “Don’t put words in my mouth!” Patrick: “I said ‘possibly’.”
